Below are some of my favorite projects that I got to work on while I was in school.

These projects allowed me to explore different avenues for how I approach design and creative.

Oakridge butcher

For this project, our class had to create a brand and visual identity around specialized product/service.

There were a lot of ideas to choose from, but as a personal challenge I wanted to have a look and feel that would diversify my portfolio at the time. After narrowing down my options, I chose to do a butcher shop that specializes in delivering meats/seafood while also prided themselves on being eco-friendly.

From navigating logo concepts to figuring out the catalog for what the business would sell, this was a fun explore into packaging design and how the look and feel would translate across the board. There’s still some things I’d do differently with this, but again really happy with how this turned out.

During the fall semester of 2021, my layout class was assigned a project to create a booklet based on an annual report.

The goal of this project was to create a booklet with important information we found important from the report while presenting it as a dynamic layout.

Some challenges in the creation of this booklet was displaying the information while breaking the traditional forms of layout. This pushed me to play with larger typography, using elements that correlate to the theme, creating custom illustrations, and making certain information stand out on a page while integrating in the layout. The combination of illustration with design led this to be one of my favorite student projects to date.

Alphabet project

For our advanced typography class, we had the task of creating our own custom alphabet. We had to create our own font, and showcase how they could be used in different use cases.

Around this time, I became fascinated with space and the Man on the Moon III Album by Kid Cudi. That album cover and the ongoing appreciation for space served as an inspiration for how I created my alphabet, with each letter having a reference to a space motif.

Along with the alphabet, we also had an additional opportunity to explore animating an ampersand. I continued the same design style, but explore frame by frame animation. It was ambitious but it became one of my standouts that semester. It’s a project that I thoroughly enjoyed working on.

Cascade Resort

For our last project in our Web Type class, we had to create a service through a built out website design along with building interactions and animations throughout the site.

I worked in a group of four, and we decided to create our website around a lodging location near Lake Tahoe.

This project was a fun exploration into web development and design, user experience and interface, creating a brand guide around our concept, and combining all elements together to create a great interactive prototype. We explored using Adobe XD and Figma, and I found myself exploring the softwares in my spare time.

The Nomad: Mural

Throughout my fall semester, our class was focused on creating art with habits and rhythms.

For our last project, we had to create an art piece that reflected a daily habit or ritual that could be documented and shown by the end of the semester. Around this time, I became fascinated with murals and art by Keith Haring, Jean Michael-Basquiat, and even historical references like hieroglyphs for storytelling.

With all of these as inspirations, I created my own mural in my room that I recorded and documented over the last few weeks before presenting. Establishing a theme, a pattern and incorporating my own storytelling became a compass for how I would approach painting this mural. By the end, I realized just how much I enjoyed the process, and would later replicate this style with another mural and future design projects in school. Of all my projects I’ve done during my college career, this is still one I am the most proud of.
